Show Me Something Beautiful by Scott B Froerer, 1967 “Oh, please, show me something beautiful,” said the little angel to the Mighty One. “Something smooth and soft, sweet yet spicy,” taking another quick breath she continued, “something clean and fresh, noble and brave, something pure and white…as a pearl in the sun.” The Mighty One smiled and with outstretched hand, arose from His throne – grasping her hand, and quietly said, “Come, follow me.” They traveled for a time and soon came upon a world so lovely and so sublime. People were walking to and fro going about their work as always before. Some had heavy burdens, some had light, some walked fast, some very slow; but through the crowd the angel could see a small, but strong, mother to be. The Might One said, “Look, for behold there grows ‘something beautiful’ as all heaven knows.” The little angle looked and sure enough, there within that tiny spot grew something beautiful, very beautiful. Then the Mighty One said with loving pride, “This is to be your beautiful robe; through mortality and even eternity – when you come back to my fold.” Time sped by and the little girl grew with leaps and bounds as only the mother really knew. Then one day while it snowed outside this precious little girl came to her mother’s side. Looking up she beggingly said, “Oh, please, show me something beautiful.” Her mother smiled and with outstretched hand, arose from the work – grasping her hand and quietly said, “Come, follow me.” They traveled down the hall and soon came upon, a table near the Christmas tree so tall. There in miniature was a manger with shepherds, and wise men, and animals too. And through them all the little girl could see a small but strong baby as she used to be. The mother said, “Look, here in the manger this is something beautiful…Christ our Savior.” The little girl looked and sure enough, there within was the child, and mother filled with love. The mother spoke again with loving pride, “We can be saved because He was strong and bold, so you and I can come back to our Father’s fold.” ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ |

“And [the angel] said unto me: Knowest thou the condescension of God? And I [Nephi] said unto him: I know that he loveth his children; nevertheless, I do not know the meaning of all things. And he said unto me: Behold, the virgin whom thou seest is the mother of the Son of God, after the manner of the flesh. And it came to pass that I beheld that she was carried away in the Spirit; and after she had been carried away in the spirit for the space of a time the angel spake unto me, saying: Look! And I looked and beheld the virgin again, bearing a child in her arms. And the angel said unto me: Behold the Lamb of God, yea, even the Son of the Eternal Father!” 1 Nephi 11:16-21 |
