THE LAW AND GRACE

The Law and Grace | Fathering Leadership
If you or I were to jump from a high cliff we would fall to our death…unless we were an eagle! In which case the law of gravity would interact marvelously with the laws of flight and we would soar high above the ground.
Eagles are not restricted by the law of gravity. Rather they balance gravity with the principle of lift, making it possible for them to fly until they’re ready to gently land upon their lofty perch once again.
An eagle in flight has not broken the law of gravity. In fact, laws have strictly been obeyed.

From The Book of Mormon ~ Another Testament of Jesus Christ we read:

   36 And it came to pass that I [Moroni] prayed unto the Lord that he would give unto the Gentiles [nations without the gospel of Jesus Christ] grace, that they might have charity.
37 And it came to pass that the Lord said unto me: If they have not charity it mattereth not unto thee, thou hast been faithful; wherefore, thy garments shall be made clean. And because thou hast seen thy weakness thou shalt be made strong, even unto the sitting down in the place which I have prepared in the mansions of my Father.
38 And now I, Moroni, bid farewell unto the Gentiles, yea, and also unto my brethren whom I love, until we shall meet before the judgment-seat of Christ, where all men shall know that my garments are not spotted with your blood.
39 And then shall ye know that I have seen Jesus, and that he hath talked with me face to face, and that he told me in plain humility, even as a man telleth another in mine own language, concerning these things;
40 And only a few have I written, because of my weakness in writing.
41 And now, I would commend you to seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written, that the grace of God the Father, and also the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost, which beareth record of them, may be and abide in you forever.

The Law

41. …You must repent and be baptized, in the name of Jesus Christ;

42. For all men must repent and be baptized, and not only men, but women, and children who have arrived at the years of accountability.

43. And now, after that you have received this, you must keep my commandments in all things; (Doctrine and Covenants 18:41-43)

Grace

26. And when I [Moroni] had said this, the Lord spake unto me, saying: Fools mock, but they shall mourn; and my grace is sufficient for the meek, that they shall take no advantage of your weakness;

27. And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.

28. Behold, I will show unto the Gentiles their weakness, and I will show unto them that faith, hope and charity bringeth unto me—the fountain of all righteousness. (Ether 12:26-28)

   The laws of God must be obeyed and then His “grace is sufficient for the meek” who “humble themselves” for they shall fly safely home to Jesus’ throne. No laws of God can be broken without consequence. In fact, all the laws of God must be strictly obeyed before any one can dwell in presence of God.

We believe that through the Atonement of Christ,

all mankind may be saved,
by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

3rd Article of Faith

Fathers, let us be faithful to Jesus Christ by keeping His laws
and meekly acknowledging our weaknesses.
Then, He will lift us up on high.

Faithful Effort

A father never wants to hear their child say of themselves that they are worthless. A child who thinks of themselves as worthless may be listening to others who brag of their looks, fortune, or social status. Comparing oneself with flashy, loud, and teasing bystanders will never define a person’s worth.
